activity one summer learning journey teaser week

Today I made another pepeha, but this time on biteable and I thought it ended up being cool. the song I used for it was This is me. bitable is an app were you make videos using text and already crested scenes. I found it tricky and difficult to wait for it to load but easy to have fun and enjoy it.

cyber spys, Identifying fake websites and emails

Today in cybersmart we were looking at how to identify if websites and emails. we came up with a few diffrent ways we looked at thus webise about a rare tree octopus. in the start we all thought it was real but once we did some back up reasearch we could tell it was fake.

Division in parts

This week in maths we are learning how to do division in parts. we had a series of questions we had to awnser word problems and non word problems.
I enjoyed doing this because It got my brain working and it was a better and easier stratergy to use.

The Hangi

yesterday on the 21st of october we made a hangi. a hangi is a maori tridishion were they cook food in a pit under ground. the girls helped prepare the food by pealing the vegies,washing and plating them along with the meat.

Letter to Toki

Surfing

On friYAY last week we went surfing at Summna beach. For surfing we were in our home rooms and got split into seals and dolphins I was a dolphin .The first thing we did was get shown how to stand on a surf board and use a boogie board. I had playing around in the water and on the beach.

I found it simple and easy tohave fun in the ocean but I found it hard to stand on a surf board and not get hot.

Days of the week ( in maori )

Today in maori we made a puzzle on jigsawplanet. jigsawplanet is a site that you can make jigsaws or puzzles on. You are able to use diffrent shapes, images, and you can make it your own. While you are making you puzzle it tells you how much you have done and it times you.

I had fun making the puzzle and I would use it again. but I found it hard to make the puzzle.

Charecter profile

Today we made a charecter profile about the main charecter in the story because of walter. We had to put the name of the charecter adgectives to describe the charecter draw a picture of the charecter where does she live what she does. I had fun doing this because I l8ove drawig but It was hard because we have not fread the whole story.

Trip to the Maori Marae

Today for the end of the term trip we went to a Marae. The Marae was called He Tangata. A Marae is a Maori place where you get taught to do cool things like games, poi and haka. We went to to the Marae with all of puni-o-toka and whakarua. The people there gave us a welcoming. We had a lot fun here are some peoples opinions on the Marae.

Bella: my favorite part was when they told the Maori myths and legends.

Tyler: it was scarily entertaining.

How I will work on the mat

This week in homeroom time we have been working on how we will work in diffrent spaces like the wet space, the mat, independentty and the campfire/ big mat. I chose to do the mat. I made a DLO on google drawings. I had a lot of fun making my DLO. I found it easy to have fun but I found it hard to make the people.

Graphs

Today in strand math we made graphs using google sheets. first we watched a video to teach us about how to make hem although I already knew how to make them, then we got on our chromebooks and made 3 graphs useing information we collected.The 3 graphs I made were a pie graph, a bar graph and a line graph.

I found it fun and easy making the charts and changing the colours fonts and other things but I found it chalenging to not have fun.

Adverbs

This week in phonics we have been trying to find adverbs. An adverb is a word that describes a verb or an adjective. we tried to find one for each letter of the alphabet the only ones I didn't find were one for U,. X,Y and Z.

I found it easy to have fun and work with other people but I found it hard to find adverbs.

Biteable

For the past few weeks in cybersmart we have been exploring other ways to show our work other than slides and drawings because thats just boring. I chose to have a play with Biteable. Biteable is a site that you can use to make videos. You can add music, images, text and even pick your own theme. But with Biteable you have a time limit of 3 mins. Biteable is such a fun tool and people should use it more often. The only downside is you have to have an upgrade to download the biteable.


I found it easy to have fun and pick a theme but I found it hard to get used to going of to get images and pick a new theme.


Sumopaint

For the past few weeks in cybersmart we have been exploring other ways to show our work other than slides and drawings because thats just boring. I chose to have a play with Sumopaint. Sumopaint is a drawing tool that has lots of different features but watch out you cant use the pro options because you have to pay for them. I think Sumopaint is a really cool tool to show your work and people should use it more often.

I found it easy to have fun and play with Sumopaint but I found it hard to get used to drawing on a chrome book and the different tools.

Canva

For the past few weeks for Maori we have been making a bookmark with the question " Ke te pehea to ahua o te rangi" (hows the weather in Maori). first we went onto Canva and chose the style info graphic, next we started making the book mark with a few answers. 

I found it easy to have fun, I found it hard to figure out how everything worked.

Pictographs

Today in strand maths we made pictographs. we answered question on a sheet to do with milk. we had to answer the questions using  the information we were given from the pictograph. Then we made our own pictographs.

I found it easy and fun to answer the questions But I found it challenging to write so much because my hand started hurting

bean experiment



Today in inquiry we planted a bean. the spheres that were involved were the geosphere, the hydro sphere the bio sphere and the atmosphere so basically all the spheres. the last group also grew a bean so we are having a competition.

Pictograph

Today in maths we learnt about pictographs. A pictograph is a graph that uses images and pictures hence the name pictograph. I already knew what a pictograph was so I did not learn anything.

I found it easy to have fun and make the graph but I found it hard to not have any fun.

Graphs

Today in maths strand we made bar graphs about a topic of our choice, I did Eye colour. we had to gather information and put it in a graph.Then we had to write three statements about our graph mine were brown is the most common eye colour, green and teal are the least common and hazel is the second most common. We also learnt that the lines on a bar graph are called axes and there is a Y axes and a X axes. The way I remember which one is which is which is " Y to the sky and X on the ground.

I found it hard to make the graph but I found it easy to have fun and write my statements


Mission to Mars

For inquiry this term we were challenged to create a mission to Mars. We watched some NASA videos to figure out what we need to survive on Mars. We  read lots of articles about Mars and what can grow there, what the air is made of etc. to survive on Mars we would need to figure out how to get oxygen , how to make houses, protection for radiation, heat sources, food , water and entertainment. this is my groups plans.

The marvellous moon landing


For the past few weeks we have been writing a moment in time. The moment in time we are writing about is either being Neil Armstrong or a kid watching it on TV. I chose a kid watching it on TV.

I found it hard to do the writing I found it easy to have fun.




3,2,1, BLAST OF


Today is the day of the first amazing and spectacular moon landing, I’m
sitting on my couch drinking hot chocolate in the comfort of my own home. I can see
the shiny new rocket blasting off. I can hear the engines starting and then suddenly
“ WOOSH “ the rocket was launching. I smiled and started shouting “It launched !
It launched ! It launched. 


The rocket is about to land and I can feel a cold shiver down my spine. The house fell silent
just waiting for the legs of the ship to hit the ground. The legs hit the ground and I
sceamed” Apollo 11 mission accomplished”


I felt exhilarated It was amazing seeing the first moon landing, I felt like I was the most
special person on earth watching it happen live. I was squealing with joy as I was jumping up
and down. My face lit up as I heard “Neil Armstrong, we have landed “ 


I could see the dusty gray moon as Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. There were lots
of craters that looked like someone had dug out holes on a gray beach. Then I heard
“one small step for man, one big leap for mankind” . I was ecstatic, a tremendous smile
stretched across my face as I squealed with excitement.


Neil Armstrong got back in the rocket and, “BSHEEW” it blasted off again falling back
down to earth and “BANG” it comes down from the atmosphere and a parachute comes
out   and slowly but surely hits the water “ SPLASH”.

It was late at night and the moon was out I looked out the window and wondered
” will I ever be an astronaut like Neil armstrong, will I ever land on the moon or Mars or
any other planet.” I went to bed with a smile on my face, dreaming of the day I would land
on the moon.

Phonics flip book

For the past few weeks in phonics we have been learning about parts of speech. To learn about parts of speech I made a flip book. we learnt what a noun is, what a verb is, what an adjective, is what a pronoun is and what an adverb is. First we coloured in the flaps, next we cut it out and stuck it on a white piece of paper, Then we wrote what the words meant.

I learnt what a adverb an a pronoun was but I  already knew what a noun a verb and an adjective is.
I found it east to colour in the flaps but I found it hard to write in the words and meaning because I didn't know the meaning to adverb and a pronoun.

UM Learning journey task 7

Today for the UM Learning journey I did task 7. Task 7 was to measure one of your stuffed animals I chose to do my Kangaroo kipper. I measured him in centimetres and using my drawing pins. I like kipper because he is soft, he is fluffy and a TY. First I measured him out to see what it was in centimetres and drawing pins. Next I took  photos of him and put it on a drawing. Then I transferred the measurements from my piece of paper to a drawing and I decorated it.

I found it easy to have fun using my imagination but I found it hard to  Kipper because he is  a kangaroo measure.

UM learning journey task 14

Today for the UM learning journey I did task 14  read a page of your favourite book but I decided to do my favourite fairy tail and did the same but recorded the hole thing. First I chose a fairy tale I chose the three little pig. Next I took pictures from the book and put it in a slide show. Then I got the music that I made. Last I read it out and recorded it.

I found it easy to record it but I found it hard to not have fun

UM learning journey Activity 12

Today for the Uru Learning journey I did the 12th activity Alphabet animals. I thought of a lot of animals but I had to search up animals for Q, V, X and Y. first I made a 4 by 13. First I wrote all the letters in. Then I put all the word in. last I changed the font and the background.

I found it easy to have fun but I found it hard to think of some animals

Today for the Uru Manuka Learning journey I made an acrostic poem about my Favourite animal, a unicorn.
first I wrote unicorn down the side of my piece of paper then I wrote the poem after that Added details last I  made sure everything looked right and I published it on my blog.

I found it easy and fun to do the details but I found it hard to write the poem.

Merging animals learning journey

today for the learning journey I did the merging animals I decided to merge a shark and a snake because I thought it would look cool. I think it ended up looking awesome I tried hard on this and It came out awesome.

Today I went round my house to ask people what their favourite sea animals are.

My brother likes sharks because they are big and cool My dad likes dolphins because they are funny and stupid I like jellyfish because the fact that there tentacles sting you is really cool .

Words with two different meaning are called homonyms

The two meanings for bark are the bark on a tree and the noise a dog makes
he two meanings for bat are the animal and the baseball bat

Other homonyms are one and won, plane and plain, night and knight, pear and pair,missed and mist and many other ones.

 I would rather be a chinchilla because I could cuddle up with my self and never get cold and would be able to defend my self by running away quickly.

I find chinchillas cute and cuddly so I would look in the mirror and become happy because I would be cute and adorable.

I love animals and I would love to be a chinchilla.

My favourite animal is a unicorn because they are mythical and magical. Unicorns are the symbol of Scotland and I love the country of Scotland because The flag is really cool. I think  that unicorns should be in every thing from videos to country flags.


Where in Christchurch

Today in maths we did directions. we had to do a map of where the school would be from or house.
I live close to my school so this was a lot easier than my friends because she lives in Kaiapoi.

I found it easy to have fun but I found it hard to draw it.


Parachute

This term in inquiry we did STEM. We had the options of vehicles, towers, bridges or parachute I chose parachute because it sounded funner. than the rest.Our parachute had to hold 10 grams or the weight of a Lego man.

First we got into groups I was with Nirvana, Keah and Aone. Next we planed our work. Then we started building. Last we tested it we did not get a chance to test it because we did not finish.

Our idea didn't work but we did not get to test out idea so we have no actual idea but I think it would not have work.

I found it easy to build the parachute but I found it had to work as a group.



Matariki animation

This week we have been studying Matariki. Matariki celebrates the Maori new year and a new harvest. Some celebrations for Matariki are Hangis and Family gatherings. In literacy we made an animation on the story of matariki mine is not finished but I hope you like what I have done so far.

I found it easy to have fun but I found it hard to do the animation



Digi awards

This term our school entered a contest called Digi award. Digi awards is something where you have a theme and you can win prizes this year the theme was Innovative Christchurch. There were lots of options fro what we could do animations ,I movies ,ads the hole lot but me and my group ( Reuben Carla and I ) chose A site. our site was about all the good things in Christchurch.

I had fun doing this because I got to work with my friends but I found it hard to make the site.

PB4L Reflection

Today in home room time we did a reflection  on PB4L ( positive behaviour for learning). We did this because it is the last day of term and we needed to set goals for next term. I enjoy reflecting on things and making new goals.

I found it easy to set goals but I found it hard to not have fun.

Rewriting paper scissors rock

this week in literacy we rewrote the story paper scissors rock from one of the 3 characters perspective Rock, Paper or Scissors I chose Scissors. I chose scissors because I thought his plot and story would be good.

First we watched the video and chose our character, then we wrote the story and edited it last we published it.

I found it easy to have fun but I found it hard to write the story.



Forest mayhem
It was a warm spring morning I was sneaking in the big green bushes watching rock he was
sitting on the edge of the big cliff then “CRACK” the cliff broke. When he hit the ground he saw
paper it looked like love at first site to me. I see rock stare into papers eyes and I whisper to
myself  ̈ No She is mine rock, time for revenge”


I jump out of the green bush the look on their faces was scareder than a mouse being
chased by a fox. As rock grabs papers hand and his hand crumbles into tiny pebbles I smirk
and Announce
” It's the end for both if you paper beats rock remember, that's just how it works” 


They start running with me close behind I chop everything in my
path trees and when they are cornered I walk up slowly and cut paper, she faints rock grabs a
leaf and places it under her to pick paper up rock yells ”You’ve done it now” he ran up to me
and tries to jump on me but I dodge him I Find a piece of paper and I throw it on him, It hits
him and he dies I run up to paper I grab her and throw her in the water” thats the end of that.
I run back into the bushes with a smirk on my face thinking “ That was fun I wonder who my
next victim might be . . .

Today in maths we had a name puzzle first we had to figure out what our name was in a number code. First we got in buddy then we figured the puzzle out.

I found it easy to figure out my name and I did not find any thing hard.

Maths strand

Today in Maths strand with Miss G  we made maps. we had the options of Minecraft roblox fortnight our own or pirate I choose Minecraft. First we had to get a grid and plan it, next we coloured it in and wrote questions to do with direction. Last a buddy answered the questions I was with Harmony.

I found it hard to think of questions but I found it easy to draw, colour and have fun.

Guess who

for the past few days in literacy we have been writing a who am I about yourself. we had to use as many similes and metaphors as possibles, for example her eyes were an ocean,big and beautiful. first we wrote the Guess who then we printed it and last we drew a picture and stuck a piece of paper over it.

I found it easy to have fun and use similes but I found it hard to draw the picture.

Party puzzle

Today in maths we tried to do a problem with someone trows a party and we have to figure out how many lollies each person would get. we had to work with a buddy to figure this out. first we worked on a white board and then put in in your book

I found it easy to have fun but I found it hard to work out the problem
