Today we were told to answer a series of questions to get ready for the summer learning journey . We chose a country to learn more about and made a slide, a google drawing or to type it straight onto your blog . I found it challenging to find the information but I found it easy to have fun .

Day 1. Setting sail

Today we are writing a letter to a friend Telling them about your trip to New Zealand , here is mine .

Dear Reuben

I have now arrived in New Zealand it is a really beautiful country. So far I have explored most of the south island , my favourite place is Christchurch they have beautiful beaches and parks .

While I was on the Waka the weather was crazy ,there was rain storms and even hail. It took 6 months for me and my group to arrive in New Zealand.

I was very nervous when the bad weather came about , but when it was calm I was happy and exited but sad to move away from my friends and family.

But now that I have arrived in New Zealand I am very happy to be here and I hope you come here on the next Waka that comes about.

Day 1 - The first settlers

Maui is very cool he has done a lot of things according to legends . I learnt a lot of facts about him some of them are really cool some some not so much here are a few of my favourite myths and legends.

Fact 1 . Maui has tattoos all over his body to show his achievements he has made .

Fact 2. Maui is a demigod which means that he is greatly admired .

Fact 3. he lassoed the sun to make it slow down so peoples days were longer .

The flying cat

This week in literacy we were doing a information report but I finished my information report so I wrote a story about a flying cat . I found it easy and simple to write the story but I found it challenging and hard to make the pictures .

Summer learning journey prize

This summer the Uru Manuka cluster are doing the Summer Learning Journey along with other clusters. The Summer Learning Journey is about helping kids stay at the level they were at in Reading, Writing and maths as well it gives kids a fun opportunity to learn over the holidays. this year out theme is the world around us , in the theme there is one topic for each week land, air, sea and sustainability. The summer learning journey takes about 4 weeks with 3 activitys every day .

Nobody hates me

This week in literacy we have been changing lyrics to the song nobody likes me to make it positive . I found it challenging and hard to write the the lyrics but I found it easy to work with my friends .                                                                                                                                                                     

  

Information report

For literacy our focus is working on different styles of writing. For our information report we had a choice between the pyramids of Egypt or the extreme weather. The most challenging thing for me was finding the facts. The easiest thing was writing it down .

Kenning poem

In writing with Mrs Mcguinnity we learnt about kenning poems . They are an old Nordic style poem they have 8 lines and always end with er .first we brain stormed a spider poem next we wrote the spider poem.Then Mrs Mcguinnity told us to write some other poems. I found it challenging to find words with er on the end but I found it easy to write how the move , act and what they eat .

For literacy we have been making wanted posters to reward the people who show our people powers .I found it easy to write why I wanted to make them wanted but I found it challenging to make the picture .

How To Brush Your Teeth

For Health the Senior Learning Community have been learning about personal hygiene . This week we are making an animation on how to brush your teeth properly , to explain to 3 ,4 and 5 year old kids how to brush your teeth. I found it easy to make the characters but I found it challenging to make the whole animation .

Wanted

This week for literacy we have been told to make a wanted poster . I have made one about my teacher Mrs Jack I found it hard to make the photo but I found it easy to write how she makes my day .

This week in literacy we are using a would you rather question to show why we would make a decision . One of the questions were would you rather find the cure for cancer  or be famous . I found it easy to come up with what question I was going to chose but I found it hard to come up with reasons .

Narratives , characters and questions

This term for literacy we are looking at narratives , characters and questions and our prior knowledge on them .

Narratives  I know that narratives always have 4 , things an orientation , a sequence of events, a problem and a solution narratives also story .

Characters I know that there is always a main character and most of the time there are secondary characters . characters also have a personalty and character traits .

Questions there are 2 type of questions good readers usually ask think and search questions and right there questions .

Persist

For the past term I have been working on persist.I have placed my self in the blue because I can have fun in the learning pit and encourage others to have fun too .I found it challenging to write about the people that persisted and used the pit but I found it easy to decide where I was in the persist rubric .

How to make quality blog comments

For the past two weeks I have been working on how to make quality blog comments once we knew what we were doing we got given a challenge we had to make an animation about how to make quality blog comments . I found it easy to make the starting and the ending screen but I found it challenging getting the characters to the right size .

Water Cycle

This term we have been learning about the water cycle . there are four stages to the water cycle and they have a specific order the order is  evaporation , condensation precipitation and collection . The water cycle is important because if we didn’t have a water cycle we would have a drought because it needs to rain so we don't have a drought .  

Calendar art

for calendar art  this year we have learn how to blend colours with paint or pastel. I loved painting and mixing colours in calendar art  but it was hard to get perfect lines and not get paint all over me .I wanted to show you mine so here it is .

My story bird

Today I went to some thing called student summit where we show people from other schools how to do stuff like coding and i movie . At student summit I learnt how to make a story bird and it was really fun I made a story called my worst enemy it was all about how a cat and a rabbit are worst enemy's and they have a war .it was easy to write the story and be creative but it was confusing and hard to get onto my account .

for the past week we have been learning division we were asked to make some thing to show how to do division in parts here is mine .

My statistics

for the past term we have been doing statistics .for statistics we were working on different types of graphs my favourite type of graph is a bar graph . I found doing some of the activates confusing and changeling but I found working with my friends easy and fun .

For the past week in literacy we have been writing poems so far we have done limericks ,acrostic poems and Cinquain poems at first I thought it was hard but I kept persisting and now I have lots of poems , If I am exact  I now have 27 poems here is one of my favourites that I would like to show you .

Word find

For the past few weeks my phonics class has been working on a word find but it is no ordinary word find it is a word find with prefixes and I found all the words .

For the past few weeks I have been learning about liquids , solids and gas we made a slide show to show what we knew about liquid , solids and gas or as I say different types of matter .

I found copying and pasting lots of dots hard .
but I found answering questions easy .

This week for art we have been colouring in pictures of trees with pastel to represent the 4 seasons summer,autumn,winter and spring I did a lot of blending with colours to try and make the perfect colour. here it is could you please say  in the comments if I could do something to try and make it better .

My Anthology

This term for literacy we have been learning about different types of poems before we learnt what other types of poems there were I only knew one type of poem a Haiku but now I know two types of poems limericks and haiku . I found having fun and making up thinks easy but I found making words rhyme hard .

The Choir Performance

Last sunny Friday, the awesome South Hornby Storytellers performed an epic performance in front of the whole school. It was my first ever real proformance, at first I was very nervous , but I got over my fears because I knew , that if I made a mistake no one would judge me ,and I was performing with my friends .When we got on stage I was shaking with fear because I have stage fright . When I started singing I didn't even notice the audience because I was having so much fun . When we finished I said to myself, ¨  why was I so scared that was super awesome and fun, I have never had any more fun in my life¨ . I wanted to do it again ,but I have to wait for my next performance and that was really annoying. That was my fantastic day on Friday.

My tattoo

For the past 2 weeks in inquiry I have been designing a tattoo that we would like have when we are older.It was very fun designing and changing the look of our tattoo and being creative with our designs  . I found it challenging trying to make the tattoo look how I imagined it. But  I found it easy to be creative and work with my friends .

The Hangi

Last Friday our school had a Hangi because it was Matiriki The kapahaka  girls and I helped prepare  the food and pack we were there at 7:15 in the morning .Once we had packed the food we put it in 3 big baskets .
The order of a Hangi
1.Dig a Hangi pit .
2.Stack wood and irons or stones .
3.Light fire - burn for 3 to ⅗ hours
4.When wood is burnt to embers remove all contents from the Hangi
5.Placing back in Hangi pit the red hot irons or stones
6.Putting the Hangi baskets on top of iron or stone
7.Spread cabbage leaves over Hangi baskets
8.Cover with wet sacks
9.Shovel dirt onto sacks
10.Seal tightly
11.Wait for it to cook .
12.EAT IT!!!

My christmas

This week for literacy we have been writing about celebrations that we do at home . I wrote a story about my Christmas at home and I would like to show you it.

The way I celebrate Christmas

“Christmas” I screamed as I jumped out of my comfy bed .

First my brother and I get up at about half past five to wake our mum or dad up so we can open our spectacular presents .

Next our mum/dad get up and let us open our smallest presents usually for me it is a small teddy or something like that it’s
always so exciting.

After that we have Breakfast well when I say breakfast I mean brunch. For brunch we have amazing pancakes,  juicy bacon
and amazing scrambled eggs yum yum .

Later that day around lunch time we got to open the rest of our presents we always get one really huge one I always get really
excited about the biggest one .

At around six o’clock we had diner for dinner we had  roast chicken roast potatoes and mixed vegetables I was craving to eat it .

I think I have a very different Christmas to everyone else I hope you agree that my Christmas is very different and fun.

Robotics

Over the last ten weeks in robotics I have been learning  how to make the EV3's to move .

First I learnt how to make the robot move straight and turn .then I had to learn how to program it stop at a certain point .

next we had to make an arm to add onto the robot so it could pick up a block I found doing that really chalenging

the last task was to program the robot to go through a maze stop at a zebra crossing then pick up a piece of rubbish I didn't get that far because we dint
have enough time .

The most fun thing was watching the robots go round the maze because I was really funny

And the most challenging thing was making the robots arm

Make their day

For the last two weeks Whakarua and Puni-o-toka have been learning about making peoples day . To show what we can do we made an action plan to show what we have been doing .

ANZAC Day for me.

For the last week my literacy group have been looking at a box that we got in the mail . Inside the box was some really old stuff from world war one . We had a look inside the box and talked about what we thought what they meant . So Connie and I made a story about what we thought and felt .

I think that the story Thirteen Served Five Died was a very stern
and sad story. I can’t believe that the population in New Zealand  in 1914 was
only 1,095,994 and 194,254 went to war that's 10 % of New Zealand . I never
knew that Anzac day was so important until I read the story Thirteen Served
Five Died.

Monsters are real

This week my literacy group have been writing persuasive arguments about ether monsters are real or monsters are fake I chose real and I wrote about it .

I think that you should believe that monsters are real . Did you know that  even if you have never seen
a monster before … it's coming for you?

Monsters come into your room and drain out your energy in the middle of the night .That's why
sometimes you feel tired when you wake up .

In the deepest darkness of the night, bed bugs grow and grow until they are twice the size of you and
suck out all your blood!

They hide in the dark under your bed until the day of Halloween . Then they jump out and scare you out of your pants .

Lots of people say monsters aren't real but if you have you ever heard a weird noise it's because there's
a monster under your bed .

So as you can see monsters are real. Next time you go to bed, check underneath it.  Trust me .

sustainabilaty

This morning I learnt about what it is means to be sustainable . A small change can make a big difference this is what I think I could do to to help this planet be more sustainability . I would eat less food that comes from other countries like bananas . did you know that bananas come from Southeast Asia and bananas travel 4,598 miles to get to there destination so try eat seasonally or food from your country .

A bunyip in a billabong

My literacy group have been reading the big book "Bunyip in the Billabong" and also we've been writing persuasive writing so we decided to mix them together and write a persuasive argument. In the bunyip or townspeople perspective I chose the bunyip's perspective and wrote about it .

Dear Townspeople,

I believe that I have to stay in your billabong .

Did you know that I am the last bunyip in the entire galaxy?

There are many ways I can help your village be great.

Firstly I can come to your kids birthday party and give kids rides , do magic and make a cake .

Another reason is I could easily help you if your town got attacked by aliens. I would show them my
big beady eyes and my snapping jaws and scratching claws .

Also I could be a big attraction to tourists. They would pay for souvenirs and you would get a lot of money .

Lots of people say that there are more bunyips in the universe but , I came through 15 galaxies to get to
this world. You can’t kick me out!

As you can see I need to stay in your billabong and I can be very useful .

Robotics

This week for inquiry I did robotics . robotics is programming robots to move and do what you want them to do I found it hard to make the robots move because there were more than one coding blocks . it was also hard to find the right pattern but in the end my team and me made it through all the loops , twists and turns .

vaporizing machine

In literacy my group, Boy in the Dress have been learning about black holes when we happened to come across a vaporising machine in the book that we were reading so we made one here is mine . I found it challenging to make the planet and the vaporising machine .

In literacy I have been learning about using wow words and vocabulary for impact .

We looked at a image and thought critically about it . We used lots of reflective questions to think about it I found it challenging to think about the start and the end .

This story starts on a wet springs day where I just moved into my new house . So I explored
the house ,I found this tiny door in the hallway So I opened it I stuck my hand in because it was
way too small to put my whole body in .

I wasn't sure who made the door but there were traces of Glitter and fur from a cat .
Inside of the door I felt two Potions so I took one But the door shut I didn't know what happened
but I pulled it and it broke it splashed all over me and made me turn miniature .

Then I saw a
button it would have been too tiny for me to press when I was still big So I pressed it it made
the ladder extend and made it big enough for me to climb . I open the door and a portal was
inside of it so I walked in and the portal sent me to the middle of a maze .

After  a day of searching the maze seemed endless and I had no food no water and no place

for me to sleep until I found a chest with some water and some plain biscuits then I thought
to myself It wasn't the best but it would do for now .
After three days of searching I found a regular size door but I couldn't open it until I found a little button I mean come on it was smaller than me so I pressed it  opened the door and I saw a land made of candy and fluffy kittens with wings and pink fluffy unicorns dancing on a rainbow so I stayed there forever then I woke up It was just a dream . . . or was it .

Being responsible with your chrome book

In cyber smart I have been learning about being responsible with our chrome books .First we put our prior knowledge into a padlet .Then we buddied up and created a poster about being responsible with Chromebooks . I found it hard to think of words that other people probably have not used  but I found it easy to make the poster after I thought of sentences .
