A summary of NZ history

Today in who are we we watched a video about Maori past and history here is  a summary of NZ history.

In 1642 Abel Tasman arrived in NZ mapped a line around the edge of NZ and called it Nova Zealandia but left shortly after meeting Maori. 100 years later James Cook ( Captain cook ) arrived in 1769 with a chief navigator called Tupaia and they bought pigs, ship rats , potato and disuses. They later started a musket war ( musket is a type of gun ) it ended in the late 1830. After the musket wars the ratio from Pakeha to Maori was 1 Pakeha to 40 Maori.
People thought There was land under NZ called Terra exstalis incognito.

  2. Good start Aliyah. I'm glad to see you working on one of your goals so quickly. When did the early settlers known as "Tangata Whenua" arrive?

  3. Hi Aliyah
    This is a good summary of the Early Europeans in Aotearoa. I'm glad that you included that the explorers were looking for a big continent in the southern hemisphere which they thought existed to balance out all of the land in the northern hemisphere.
