Script detective

Last week in Hur 2 we started a new term of drama. In this term of drama we are looking at a thing called script detective. In script detective we inspect books, scripts and other things to try and find emotions and other things that might be in the text. Last week however we did some drama exercises and we worked together and did some things like freeze fame and acting.

The Bully      16/11/2020
Today in drama we looked at a short video called the bully. The bully was made by a 12 year old girl who got bullied but helped someone and they became friends. Would describe the victim as shy person who wants to fit in.

My Learning story ( Hur 1 - Who are we )

Today in Hur 1 - (Who are we) we created a learning story. A learning story is basically a reflection on your learning from the past term, in this case what we learnt from Hur 1. Here is my learning story.

My Learning Story

Hurumanu:      Hur 1 Who are we

Name: Aliyah

Teachers: Ds, Ht

Term 3

2020

Reflection:

Give at least three examples in each of the boxes below.

What We Did:

  •  We read a book. Called six photos.Six photos was a book that had photos from the past. After looking at the photos we did an activity where we explained what we thought about and what it was about.

  •  We learnt about the NZ gold rush and what happened during it. We read a book and did an activity sheet about it testing our knowledge about what we had learnt.

  • We did a lot about Parihaka, we read books and we did different activities like making a DLO about Parihaka with a lot of different questions to ask and answer.

  • World War One was a really fun topic to study. We read a few books and did some activity like make a DLO on things like Biteable , Powtoon or Renderforest.

What I Learned:

  •  I learnt that in WW1 women had to take roles that men would normally take. Like truck drivers, farmers and on some occasions even spy's!

  • I also learnt that the gold rush really changed poor people's lives because gold is worth a lot of money and if someone was to mine gold they would go from poor to wealthy very fast.

  • One more thing that I learnt was that photos can tell a story and can be interpreted in various different ways depending on how you think and what you think is going on in the photo.

My Favourite Part:

  •  One of my favourite parts was researching about WW1 and learning people's roles and things that happened in WW1.

  •  One of my other favourite parts was making a slideshow about Parihaka cause I was having fun while learning.

  • Another part that I enjoyed was creating my WW1 Powtoon because I could make it look really cool and play with the fonts to make it look professional even though it's not.

My Next Steps:

  •  one of my next steps would be to sit next to people that will help with my learning and make sure I don't talk or if I sit with my friends make sure if we talk it's about learning.

  •  Another thing that would help or improve my learning is focusing on my work and not get distracted with other people.

  • Another step I could do is work out what I do in my head before I start to make sure I do it right.

CARR Values:

Make a statement below describing how you showed each of our CARR values during this Hurumanu.

I showed commitment to my learning by making sure I used all my ability to complete my work to a high standard.

My Learning story ( Hur 6 - Healthy lifestyles )

Today in Hur 6 - Healthy lifestyles we created a learning story. A learning story is basically a reflection on your learning from the past term, in this case what we learnt from Hur 6. Here is my learning story.

My Learning Story

Hurumanu:                        Hur 6 - Healthy lifestyles

Name: Aliyah

Teachers: Ds

Term 3

2020

Reflection:

Give at least three examples in each of the boxes below.

What We Did:

  •  We researched and created a DLO about how sleep afects teenagerts bodys and what would happen if we didn’t sleep for weeks.

  •  We did the lunchbox challenge where we had to create a healthy sustainable lunch over a week with a budget of $20.

  • We analysed either Covid-19 or smoking data and made graphs out of the data that we had analyzed.

What I Learned:

  •  I learnt what a healthy diet should look like in a 13-18 year old teenager.

  •  I learnt how to calculate the Mean, Median, mode and range of a set of data.

  • We learnt how to use google sheets to find out the mean, median, mode and range of a set of data as well as make graphs.

My Favourite Part:

  •  One of My favourite parts was doing the lunchbox challenge because I could challenge myself to make it sustainable and healthy.

  •  Another part I enjoyed was looking at the effects of sleep and what it does to your body.

  • One more part I enjoyed was using google sheets to work out the mean, median, mode and range or a set of numbers along with graphs.

My Next Steps:

  •  One of my next steps would be to try and work out the mean, median, mode and range of a set of numbers without a calculator.

  •  Another one of my next steps could be to try and stop talking with my friends and start doing more work but if i talk it must be work related.

  • One more step that I could take would be to focus on my work instead of my surroundings.

CARR Values:

Make a statement below describing how you showed each of our CARR values during this Hurumanu.

Commitment

I showed commitment by making sure all my work was completed on time and to a high quality standard.

Achievement

I showed achievement by making sure all my work was complete to a high standard and mostly posted on my blog.

Resilience

I showed resilience by continuing to do my work even if it was difficult I continued trying.

Respect

I showed respect by respecting my teachers and peers around me.

Martian code mission

For the past couple weeks in Hur 3 science we have been trying to find a system to communicate across a long distance. After doing  some research me and my buddy ( Mikayla ) found a system that we thought would work, Morse code using light. For this we first wrote down the whole alphabet in Morse code then we did it with a flashlight. Mikayla sent the message and I received it (well I tried to). It didn't actually work. We think the reason why was it was it was to light and we didn't have practice. we could have done it while it was darker or we had more practice.

The NZ Gold Rush

Today in Hur1 we have been looking at the NZ gold rush, here are some facts I learnt about it.

1. Gold is valuable because it is rare and attractive.
2. Gold is found as small flecks in the veins of hard quartz rocks.
3. alluvial gold is found in rocks that have been worn down to sand.
4. if you asked and gold miner where the gold was they would say, "where it be there it be".
5. in NZ gold was mainly found in, Otago, Marlborough, Southland, The west coast, Golden bay and in the Coromandel Peninsula.
6. 4 properties to describe gold are Inert, shiny, Heavy and  Malleable.
7. The first Europian to find gold in NZ was Charles Ring from Tasmania in Driving creek in 1852.

I learnt a lot from his bu he main thing I learnt was people really liked gold and would use it to get out of poverty.

Freeze frame

Today in Hur 2 drama we made 6 different freeze frames for 6 main points in the story "Bok Choy"
The six points that I thought were the most important were.

  1. Going fishing to get away from the fight between the two mums
  2. Falling into the river
  3. waking up in Arsum's house and getting offered  the rice
  4. Mum coming in and being very grateful
  5. Thinking about why Arsum worshipped the portraits
  6. The two mums arguing again but standing up for Arsum and his "Bok Choy"
