Where in Christchurch from SHS

Today in strand maths we had to find out what direction things were from SHS. First we got a list of things we had to find, next we found the directions for it like North, East, South etc. After that we wrote the direction in our books. Lastly we had to find our own places and we had to find where they were.

I found it easy to find the directions but I found it hard to make my own.

Straw rafts

In inquiry we are learning about the design process. The design process is where you plan, design and test the product or theory. Sometimes when you test it it does not work and you have to start back at the beginning and see how you could make it better.

Mrs McG gave us a challenge had to plan, design ,and build a straw raft that will float with a 40 g weight on it. We could only use 20 plastic straws that were the same size and about a meter of masking tape.

My raft failed I didn't make It but I never gave up because I wanted it to float even if it didn't. We did some research on how rafts float and I found that all the straws had to be very close together and they had to be even and that an object will float if the downwards pull is less that the upwards pull.

I found it easy to have fun enjoy it, but I found it hard to design it and trying get it to float.

Friends puzzle

Today in maths we did a friends puzzle . first we got into groups I was with Lucas and Jed. Next we tried to figure it out it was hard but at the same time easy. Once we figured it out we showed it to the teacher and blogged it. I found it easy to have fun but I found it hard to do the puzzle.

Maze

this term in maths we have been learning about directions. We created a maze on paper for our buddy to get through.First we drew the maze, next we directed our buddy through the maze.

I found it easy to draw the maze but I found it hard to work with someone I don't normally work with.
I enjoyed this because I got to learn about directions and have fun.

Coordinates

This week in geometry we learnt about coordinates coordinates are things that are made of letters and numbers to signify where you are going, they are also a type of direction like north east south west etc. We had an activity to do with coordinates we had to draw things where they were meant to go and find the coordinates for other things.

I found it easy to draw and find the coordinates but I found it tricky to colour because my hand got really sore.

My book cover

This week in literacy we made a book cover for the book that we are writing. First I sketched out my design, next I made sure it looked good by colouring it in and adding detail. After that I did the back cover and finally finished it of with lots of colour, and a horse. I Loved doing this because I was fun being able to sketch and be creative. I found it hard to sketch the girl but I found it easy to enjoy it and have fun.

Pigeon Impossible

Today we watched short video called Pigeon Impossible. The video was about a pigeon who just wanted to steal a bagel but set of a missile to destroy Russia instead. Walter the secret agent had to complete his mission to stop the missile from destroying Russia . He completed his task but it did not end up the way he thought it would.

There were 4 activites that we could choose from, there was creating a wanted poster, create another mission for Walter to complete, make a news report or make a comic about the video. I decided to do the wanted poster. 

I found it hard to make the pigeon but I found it easy to have fun and enjoy it.

Bird migration

This week in literacy we made an animation about bird migration. First we read the story on the move, next we made an animation an bird migration. I found it easy to have fun but I found it hard to make the birds and animation.

Prefixes and sufixes

For the last 1-2 weeks in phonics we have been doing prefixes and suffixes phonics sheets. we had 2 pages for prefixes and 2 pages for suffixes the same thing to do but one prefixes and one suffixes. for prefixes we had a box of root words and a box or prefixes we wrote the root word then the prefix in front of it to make another word then we wrote the new word in the last box. I had a lot of fun doing this my favourite part was writing a word and drawing a picture corresponding to that word. I found it hard to write all the words because my hands would get very tired and sore, but I found it easy to draw the pictures and have fun.

Comic strip

 In literacy we have been making comic strips on book creator about our South Hornby people power, 'play'. To use our people power play you have to be able to have fun while learning, be able to laugh while learning, being able to congratulate others and being creative and curious. I found it easy to have fun, but I found it challenging to create the pictures. This is a work in progress.

Fortune teller

This week we were writing instructions about how to make a fortune teller. First we did a draft on paper this was the hardest bit. Next we got a buddy to check it then, we edited. after that we put it on a doc or slide show and published it. I found it hard to write the draft but I found it easy to have fun and publish it.

Treasure map

This week in Mr Breach's Literacy we made treasure maps. first we dipped regular paper into tea and ripped the edges. Next we sketched our plan onto the paper some of us had secret places. After that we coloured it in to make it look cool. Last we tied it up with a ribbon and wrote a date on it
